The formation of JAMMS was prompted by the desire for local record producers to band together with international record producers in order to create a full-service or “one-stop-shop” organization treating with the licensing, collection, and distribution of royalties due on account of the rights in the sound recordings of SRCOs (usually an individual record producer, a record label or record company).

JAMMS was established with the collaboration of International Federation of Phonographic Industry (IFPI), the Recording Industry Association of Jamaica (RIAJam) and Jamaica Musical Rights Administration Society (JAMRAS) (now being wound-up), and has been constituted to represent both the international and local repertoire of sound recordings.
