The formation of JAMMS was prompted by the desire for local record producers to band together with international record producers in order to create a full-service or “one-stop-shop” organization treating with the licensing, collection, and distribution of royalties due on account of the rights in the sound recordings of SRCOs (usually an individual record producer, a record label or record company).
JAMMS was established with the collaboration of
International Federation of Phonographic Industry (
IFPI), the
Recording Industry Association of Jamaica (
RIAJam) and Jamaica Musical Rights Administration Society (
JAMRAS) (now being wound-up), and has been constituted to represent both the international and local repertoire of sound recordings.
